Fandomverse – The Science Behind Fan Culture, Conference on Nov. 7, 2023

In November, the "Fandomverse 2023" will take place for the first time, a conference highlighting the science behind fan culture. It is organised by master's students of the book and reading studies department and will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Alte Mensa, Joh.-Joachim-Becher-Weg 5 (Atrium max /Right Aula).

Speakers from the book industry and the "fandomverse" will give lectures and workshops on a variety of topics related to fandoms.

The lectures can be attended by everyone without a previous registration.

For the workshops, though, you must register on a mailing list first: I'm in.

Only those who are on the mailing list will be contacted and can register for the workshops.

Workshop 1: Online Fan Communities
with Nils Hirseland, Chairman of the Perry-Rhodan Fan Centre

Workshop 2: Fan conventions
with Tobias M. Eckrich, Chairman of the German Tolkien Society

Workshop 3: Fanfiction
with Dr. Vera Cuntz-Leng, research assistant at the Institute for Media Studies at the University of Marburg

You will be assigned to your preferred workshop as long as there are free places.
If your preferred workshop is already fully booked, the second choice will be booked.
You will be informed about it in an e-mail.
The registration for a workshop is based on a first-come-first serve basis.
