The lecture “The Book in Popular Culture” will take place in the 2026 summer semester as a digital lecture series entitled “BookVibes.”Young adult and new adult literature are no longer niche genres, but rather a key growth segment of the German-language book market. With strong communities, social media dynamics, and intensive reader engagement, they shape the current reading practices and aesthetic preferences of young target groups. With “BookVibes,” we are launching a platform that brings together players from the industry, academia, media, trade, and community—in dialogue, not just in lectures.

· Market trends and program strategies in Young & New Adult
· Publishing work between community engagement, branding, and program policy
· Materiality, collector's editions, and the “joy of collecting”
· Author communities and social media audiences
· BookTok, #Romantasy, and new gatekeepers
· Young & New Adult in bookstores, subscription boxes, and the library system
· Criticism, discussion, and questions of canon
Aim of the series
We want to make insights, experiences, positions, and debates visible – based on practical experience and in exchange with academia and readers. We are interested in discourse, understanding, and mutual learning.
