Robots in reading promotion? - Potentials and challenges of human-centered interaction designRobots are increasingly being used in reading learning contexts (Jäger/Sander): The read-aloud owl Luka and the reading bear SAMi are sold as products for reading promotion (Vogel). Humanoid robots, e.g. NAO, are used in reading promotion projects in libraries (Prasch). The effectiveness of such robot applications also depends on user-related variables such as acceptance and trust in the technical agents (Kraus et al. 2022). The interdisciplinary teaching project examines the possibilities and challenges of using robots in reading promotion from a psychological, book science and reading didactics perspective. It examines how interaction with robots can be designed in such a way that it is perceived as positive and promotes the teaching of reading skills. In a human-centered development process (see ISO, 2019), the students analyze the specific requirements of the use of robots in schools and the user group of pupils. On this basis, conclusions are drawn for optimized human-robot interaction, which are placed in the context of critical robot didactics (Reich-Stiebert 2023; Sander/Jäger) and developments in reading research (Gold 2023; Lauer 2020).
The course will be held in German.
