From paperback to digital transformation - analyses of 70 years of book market statisticsSince 1952, the Börsenverein des deutschen Buchhandels has published the statistical publication "Buch und Buchhandel in Zahlen", which contains key figures on industry developments. It contains the results of the Börsenverein's own studies and member surveys as well as numerous data from other sources. In the project seminar, we will analyze these in detail, critically examine the source value of the figures they contain and supplement them with other contemporary sources. Continuities and breaks in the data collection will be worked out.
Since all sectors of the book industry are represented in the Börsenverein - which is unique in the world - the statistical publication contains data on all industry participants, so that developments in the product range - for example, from the fear of the threshold to the book department store and online trade - or in the area of buyers and readers can also be traced.
The seminar will be held in German.
